He has been involved in freestyle wrestling since childhood, but in 2001, while living in Minnesota, he began his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey under the guidance of excellent coach Greg Nelson. While training in Minnesota, he learned MMA-oriented grappling, classic Gracie Jiu Jitsu, Shooto, Catch Wrestling and Combat Submission Wrestling styles. In 2012, he became the first Latvian to obtain a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Returning to Latvia, he opened his own wrestling club, where to this day he continues to transfer knowledge to Latvian athletes and wrestling enthusiasts. Extensive experience in competitions: professional MMA fights, multiple Latvian champion in freestyle wrestling, as well as various Brazilian jiu jitsu and grappling tournaments.

Brown-belt athlete, who has actively competed and medalled in many competitions (Gold medal at the 2020 IBJJF European Open, Purple Belt, Masters 2; numerous medals throughout 2015-2019 at the IBJJF British and London Open tournaments, as well as several titles at local, Baltics-level competitions, both Gi and No-Gi.) Cross-training in freestyle wrestling to be a well-rounded grappler.
Dainis is still evolving and pursuing technical excellence by meticulously studying the nuances of grappling arts. Also, has a passion for teaching and patiently passing the knowledge by coaching both adults and kids.

A passionate student of the Grappling Arts. Valera is a great example of how much one can accomplish with enthusiasm, hard work, and perseverance. An active competitor with several note-worthy victories in both international (e.g. Bronze Medal at the Swedish Open 2019) and local tournaments.
Enjoys teaching Kids' classes and is still actively evolving himself by training every day. Also cross-trains in Freestyle Wrestling.
